i ne’er really heard of a tablet computer before the ipad but then realized that there were other tablet devices before the ipad. why is it that apple’s relinquished made people more interested in tablet computers?

There are at least a couple of reasons – one being that the technology was not there yet – and the other is that Steve Jobs is an expert in marketing.
