Answer by Aaron
It is a very good idea to buy a netbook if you are only going to do internet related tasks because they are much more compact than laptops and also they are much cheaper. If you want to edit video, play complex games, edit photos, or use any other processor-intensive programs, you would want a laptop.

Question by Jamie<33: Netbooks…………?
Hi, I recently got my first job and I was planning on purchasing a laptop with the money I save up. A few family members proposing buying a netbook instead. Would this be a good idea? All I’ll really be doing is going on the internet. Do netbooks have fast internet connections and will there be things I can’t do on a netbook that I could on a laptop? Sorry about all the questions, I’m equitable curious. Thanks for any help!

Answer by Tim S
A netbook won’t be faster on the internet. (Internet speed is determined by the internet connection, not the computer it’s attached to)You won’t be able to do much more than internetting, or word processing on a netbook. No games or anything like that (good, maybe some really old ones)

Malata 11.6-inch Intel “Cedar Trail” netbook hands-on
Posted on July 6th, 2011 No comments
www.tweaktown.com Computex Taipei 2011 – Nicole went back to the Malata booth and went hands-on with their upcoming Intel “Cedar Trail” based netbook called the PCB1104. This is a 11.6-inch netbook with a 1366 x 768 and it should end up shipping with a HDMI port since the new Cedar Trail” Atom platform from Intel supports it. It is a super thin netbook with a white glossy finish with two stereo speakers on the back of the unit. It comes with a battery that should provide around 5 hours of usage. Nicole was rather impressed with the island style chiclet keyboard (as am I, I reckon all laptops and netbooks etc should use them!), but she didn’t like the size of the track pad or the small mouse buttons. It will be shipping in July for around 9.

Posted on June 17th, 2011 No comments
A netbook can be a little, lightweight, cheap and very portable laptop computer withal it has the processing electric power in importantly less than a total-sized laptop computer. However, it is advantageous copious for received computing, word processing, running a web browser and linking for the Net wirelessly. Netbooks are little in dimensions, unremarkably which has a 10-inch display, but some displays may be somewhat scaled-downwards or greater. Their bodyweight is about 2.5 lbs plus they clear for good beneath today. Most netbooks have Intel Atom processor and a minimum of one GB of RAM.With the ever increasing need for your netbook a lot of businesses are creating far more and much more netbook designs launched in to the world market place. So, it is not easy to produce a right selection of purchasing a great netbook for consumers. For anybody seeking to purchase a netbook, here are a few critical netbook features to contemplate:
Screen dimensions and screen resolution
Netbooks mostly incorporate a display size which ranges from seven to 12 inches. That is a big variation from the mutual 15 inches on a total-sized laptop. In order to do a decision which display dimensions is very full plenteous for you personally, you ought to seek away to clip your favourite applications and glimpse your favourite internet sites on the selection of unlike sized screens.Try away to purchase a screen dimensions of eight.9 inches or greater in any other case the screen and its resolution might be likewise lower and last let it to be far more hard to study. A 10-inch netbook usually has resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and weighs less than three lbs whereas 11- and 12- inch netbooks typically have resolutions of 1280 x 800 and 1366 x 768 severally and measure a little bit a lot more. Even so, when taking into consideration its price and fatty with each other, a 10-inch display is an idealistic choice and it is the most efficacious selling netbook size on the retailer’s website.
Keyboard and touchpad
A keyboard of netbooks is often scaled-down than a regular keyboard of full dimensions laptops and range from 88-93% from the full-size keyboards. The keyboard layout of netbook is very much like the full dimensions keyboard but important buttons on netbooks are more compact and nearer. But even though two netbooks possess the identical size keyboard, their layouts may be diverse and their keys are closer on some netbooks than other individuals. If probable, make sure you test out the keyboard to guarantee they’re big enough and person friendly.
Touchpad is one of capabilities to consider. At present, a vast selection of touchpad happen to be formulated and specially created to supply a more cozy experience in the course of prolonged use. So, check out out and get a touchpad that supports multi-touch gestures.
Operating technique (OS)
Netbooks can be found for Linux and Windows operating systems and new netbooks have moved to Windows seven Starter, that is a lighter edition of Windows seven to assist with load time and all round performance. As we all know about windows since that a lot of people are familiar together with the Windows layout as they happen to be utilizing it for a number of decades on their property and workplace computer systems. You can also get a netbook with Linux, which is an a lot more basic and more rapidly operating method. Netbooks with Linux run great for world wide web surfing, email, and word processing via Open Workplace. However, Linux may possibly be incompatible with some applications. Lastly, you are able to still locate netbooks operating on Windows XP or Vista.
Processor
Intel Atom is the most typical processor accessible for the netbooks (the majority of them run on the Intel Atom N or Z Sequence). Here you ought to go for that newest technologies due to the fact they are offered with more effectiveness and attempt not to buy a previous netbook because you tin confront issue of velocity and performance. The newest Atom processor on netbooks for 2010 is Intel Atom N450 Processor (1.66 GHz). Most netbooks launched in to the markets very last 12 months were Intel Atom N270 or N280 which are being replaced by new Intel Atom N450. We could recognize that all processors on netbooks are slower than the regular processor on laptops, which can be about 2.one GHz. Which means that a netbook will probably be slower when operating heavier plans. So, you should not use a netbook for large processing, like photo/video editing and gaming. However, netbooks are ideal for light processes like global wide netting surfing, email, and word processing.
Battery Lifestyle
Previous notebook batteries generally feature 3-cell (less than 30 Wh) models but for new netbooks, they’ve upped their normal batteries to 6-cell models which may get you unplugged for about 6-9 hrs even though 3-cell systems generally get amongst one and 3 hrs of endurance. If your job or perform need traveling then you definitely ought to try to find the 6-cell option that will get you unplugged for about 6-9 hrs on the single cost. They’re small high priced than 3-cell battery netbooks but can be very useful if your pursuits entail overseas travel or all-day classes.Right after Intel has unveiled new Atom N450 processor, new netbooks can eat less power about 20% over prior netbook generation (e.g. Intel Atom N270, N280). New latest netbooks are coming with battery daily life of 10-14 hours such as types Asus Eee Pc 1005PE-P, Asus Eee Computer 100P, Acer A0532h and Toshiba Mini NB305-N410 (10-inch display).
Memory (RAM)
Almost all of netbooks include 1GB and are as much as 2GB. It is dependent about the varieties of operating technique used in netbooks (1GB for Windows XP and 2GB for Windows seven or Window Vista). Nonetheless, please be sure to have at the least 1GB to keep factors working smoothly.Storage capacity
You can find 2 forms of hard drives; solid-state drives (SSDs) and spinning hard disk drives (HDDs). The SSDs are quicker and more durable than HDDs and consume less energy and weigh significantly less. The storage capability of SSDs is just not enough for netbooks on account of the higher price tag. The early design Eee PCs have only 4GB or 8GB SSD, and the newer design Eee Pc one thousand employs a 40GB SSD. Most netbooks are equipped with all the HDDs which have the storage ability from 60GB to 320GB. Seek retired a challenging drive that has a capability of at least 160GB and a rotational pace of five,400 rpm.Optical Drive
Netbooks usually do not come with built-in optical drives for playing movies. That means you can’t run CDs/DVDs. Even so, it is possible to buy a separate drive to plug into your netbook or use an additional laptop or computer to “rip the DVD” to a motion picture file that you can transfer via an USB drive or external challenging drive, but component of its portability and light fat is as a result of it not acquiring an optical drive.Additionally, netbooks normally include a built-in web cam, Wi-Fi, card reader, and USB ports. Some even have further functions like Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, etc. Reliable makes of netbooks you can select from are: Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Samsung, Toshiba and so forth. Employing these manufacturers like a manual, it is possible to choose the designs that you like best or that is certainly inside your spending budget.
In summary, we recommend at a minimal, an Intel Atom N450 Processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB or greater difficult drive, eight hours long battery lifestyle and Windows seven Starter with Bluetooth being a favored solution for tethering an intelligent cellphone for mobile broadband entry.
By way of example, the Asus Eee Pc 1005PE-P together with the newest Intel Atom N450 processor and 14 hours of battery existence is presently the very best selling netbook on Amazon.com for 8.59 and the Asus Eee Pc 100P with eleven hours of battery daily life is less expensive and market for 9.99-9.99 (10″ screen). Higher-end choices are getting to be much more prevalent, with eleven.6-inch displays, larger display resolutions, and new graphics hardware, for instance, Nvidia’s Ion GPU utilized in Asus Eee Computer 1201N (12″ screen).
