  • Advantages of Notebook Computers Over Desktop Computers

Posted on December 30th, 2010 No comments
    Pooja Kumari Lapasia asked:

Computer usage has increased over the years. Now it has become a mandatory requirement in most professions. Students are also increasingly dependent on computers for their project and research work. The desktop computer is known for its all-rounded performance, higher configuration compatibility and relatively cheaper pricing. On the other hand notebook computers have an advantage for its compactness and mobility factors. Though both these forms of computers are known for their uniqueness and serve different audience but the notebook computers have the ability to eclipse over desktop computers.

Technological advancements are welcomed but they are respected when they can be mobilized. Desktop computers have been made smaller through laptops while retaining most traits. Any notebook computer can perform the tasks of a basic desktop computer and it can be enhanced as per the user wishes. Earlier it wasn’t possible to upgrade a laptop but now with increased innovations, a laptop’s RAM (Random Access Memory) can be enhanced up to 4 GB for enabling superior performance. Notebook computers are expensive as they integrate all the components of a desktop computer into one compact machine.

The storage capacity of the notebook computers was a big limitation but now even that has been considerably diminished through the usage of flash memory. This kind of memory takes up very less space and stores lots of information. Notebooks with 250 GB memory are now available in the market. Notebooks enable wireless internet access through Wi-Fi enabled hotspots and their portability adds to their major advantage. The battery backup of the notebook computer allows its usage even without dedicated power-supply. All notebooks use LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens which are better and brighter in viewing. Notebooks have combined host of features like finger print reading for security issues, inbuilt camera for chats and taking photos, DVD combo drive for playing all types of file formats and much more.

There are different kinds of Laptop computers available to suit varied requirements. There are the basic desktop replacement notebooks which have a large screen display with loaded features. There are gaming notebooks which are configured for hi-end games. There are designing applications based notebooks, tablet notebooks for easier portability and the low budget student notebooks. Thus a user can have defined usage and then buy the required notebook from a trusted computer store. Many online stores also offer great deals on notebook computers and accessories.

  • Notebook Vs Netbook – Performance Or Portability

Posted on December 28th, 2010 No comments
    Ray Chee Lim asked:

Notebook, or laptop, is a portable computer that normally have :

Screen size : 12 Inch and up Processor : Intel Pentium Dual-Core,Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion X2 Graphics : Integrated or External Graphic Card, from Intel GMA x3100 to AMD Mobility HD 3870X2 Weight : 1.9kg and up

Netbook, a smaller variant of notebook, 1st poineered by Asus with their release of Asus Eee PC 700,and now laptop companies such as Acer and MSI released their own netbooks (Acer aspire one and MSI wind respectively), have :

Screen size : 12 Inch max Processor : VIA C7 1.2GHz, Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or AMD Geode 800MHz Graphics : Integrated Graphic Card, mostly Intel GMA 900 or 950 Weight : 1.1kg and below

1st, let’s compare the screen size. With notebook screen size normally hovers around 14.1 to 15.4 inch, you can have a good movie viewing pleasure and don’t have to squint your eyes just to see some text. With screen size 12 inch and lower, you might have a hard time typing documents in your netbook.

2nd, the processor. It is a very important part or consideration because it process the website content. The faster the processor, the faster the page loads. If you normally surf around the YouTube (which is heavy in javascript and flash) then you will know that loading that website takes longer than sites such as wikipedia or forums. With a slow processor, you browser might suddenly hangs if you opened too much tabs. The netbook cpu can’t even handle 1080p movie and it will shutter all the way till the end.

3rd, the graphic card. If your primary concern is playing games, you can skip the netbook altogether as their graphic are really really lame. Some claim that they install World of Warcraft inside their netbook, but with lame graphic card and small screen, how are you ever gonna enjoy playing that game. On the other hand, notebook have better graphic card than netbook even in the low-end section. They can handle World of Warcraft and other older games easily without breaking a sweat literally.

4th, the weight. This is where the netbook really shines. With their low weight (and small screen), they are truly fit the definition of portability. Thier weight are almost half of the notebook weight, which is a good thing if you’re not into bodybuilding. Coupled with their power adapter, the max weight might be only 1.5kg.

In the end, it all boils down to you. Which one you prefer the most. If you like to play games or watch movies, notebook is the way to go. If you surf the web more often and type short documents, netbook is you choice. Be warned that netbook keyboard is really small and not suitable for long-term typing.

  • The Line Between Laptop and Notebook

    John Natawaluka asked:

The first time you heard about notebook, what did you think? If you ask me the same question, I was thinking about a paper or a diary with a pen on it. I thought it was generally used to save much information on our traditional books. Yeah, I was wrong. Now notebook is a different name for laptop. But why?

Well, the concept of this word (notebook=laptop) was taken because some people described laptop as the electronic form of the old “notebook”. Both of them are small in size and they were designed to save important data/information. Of course at the present time many people are using their laptop also to play games, connect to the internet, etc. beside to save important data.

There is a saying, ‘the smaller the size of your laptop, the better.’ Undoubtedly, this saying is true for most people. Unless you consider laptop as a desktop replacement, you will agree with this statement as well. Laptop has all the traditional “notebook” abilities, so it is not weird why some people use the word “notebook” to describe a laptop.

In leading countries such as the United States, you can see plenty of young people with their laptops everywhere. With the prices of laptop keep going down and everyone now becomes more mobile, the best choice for your internet and computer need is definitely a laptop. Yes, you can use PDA, iTunes, or even your cellphone but of course laptop is more needed and better for your needs. Don’t forget you can experience all the new mobile connections such as HDSPA or even 4G better with your laptop.

  • The Great Laptop V Notebook Debate

    Sarah Maple asked:

Technology is a funny thing. It has an innate ability to divide opinion, and create ‘experts’ out of nowhere, at the risk of sounding sexist, particularly amongst men.

Last week I casually announced to friends that I was thinking of buying a laptop or notebook, but hadn’t quite figured out the exact difference between the two. The response from ‘instant experts’ was overwhelming; suddenly the bottle of Pinot we were about to order became low priority.

“Don’t worry about it,’ said one, ‘there’s absolutely no difference between them.”

“There absolutely is,’ replied another, ‘ there’s a huge difference. Internal memory capacity for a start.”

At this point, my eyes probably began to glaze over.

    “Possibly size?” Said someone else.

Ah, this part of the conversation I could follow. From what I’d figured out, the main difference between the two was that notebooks were smaller, more easily portable. My confusion had only been that if I purchased a notebook, would I miss out on using my new toy as a ‘proper’ computer.

“No, no, no.” Another ‘expert’ joined the conversation. “It’s only a branding thing – some companies call all their ‘laptops’ notebooks – that’s all it is.”

“It’s not,’ said someone else, ‘ a laptop functions as a small PC, a notebook is for, well taking notes and not much more.”

“Yeah, but the batteries last longer on notebooks.” Quipped someone else.

Finally, it got too much and I had to halt the ‘experts’ – refilling my wine glass became an even greater priority. We agreed that we would disagree and I finished the conversation none the wiser.

Later I did some research of my own and it turned out to be one of those strange situations where to a certain extent, no one was right and no one was wrong.

Some companies do, it seems, quite simply call their laptops ‘notebooks’ – whilst other companies use the term notebook to refer to a different product. Their version is lightweight, offers longer battery life, but has no DVD player and there’s some techy difference about ‘processors’. Confusing, to say the least.

This still left me with no clue which one I actually wanted. A visit to a vast out-of-town computer shop left me none the wiser either. A young man with dubious skin tried, but failed, to explain the differences. He eventually confused himself more than me and left to find the manager. After waiting patiently, I left too.

These episodes led me to the conclusion that it didn’t really matter what I called my new computer, as long as it did all the things that I needed it to. So I reverted to the good old-fashioned method of writing a list of my needs. Armed with this list, I hit the safety of online shops, late at night. It was glorious; no one to argue with me or cause further confusion.

A few weeks later, as I sat in a caf

  • Some Tips for Finding the Perfect Laptop or Notebook Computer

Posted on December 20th, 2010 No comments
    Jessica Mousseau asked:

The good news is that the price of laptop and notebook computers has never been lower than it is today. The prices of laptops have continued to fall even as the prices for other electronic equipment has stagnated, providing consumers with a wealth of computer power at their fingertips.

The bad news is that there are so many different kinds of laptop and notebook computers on the market that it can be difficult to sort through all the hype in order to find the best possible laptop at the lowest possible price. Every manufacturer claims that their particular product is the best around, and this can cause a great deal of confusion.

Fortunately there are some simple rules that consumers can use to get the most bang for their laptop or notebook buck. Each person will have a different set of needs when it comes to choosing a laptop or notebook, and there is no one model and brand that will be perfect for every consumer. The key to getting a great laptop at a great price is to understand your own needs and choose the laptop that best meets your specific criteria.

    Size Matters

When it comes to laptops and notebooks, size matters in more ways than one. One important way that size matters is in the size and weight of the laptop. Those users who plan to tote their notebooks around with them on a regular basis may want to opt for a lighter laptop, while those who plan to use their new laptop as a desktop replacement may want to look for a larger and sturdier unit.

The screen size matters a great deal as well, and it is a good idea for those in the market for a first laptop to look at several different models with a variety of screen sizes. The largest laptops and notebooks on the market boast a large 17″ screen, perfect for replacing a traditional desktop computer. Many users love the large screen size, finding it easier to navigate and more comfortable to use every day.

Of course the big 17″ screen will increase the weight of the laptop, and those who will be carrying their new purchase with them may be willing to sacrifice a bit of screen size in exchange for a lighter weight. Depending on the user a 15″, 14″ or even a 12″ screen may be fine for mobile use. And the fact that 12″ laptops are frequently the lightest and most portable can make them a very attractive alternative. For home use, a docking station can be used, allowing the laptop to make use of an existing large monitor, as well as a traditional keyboard and mouse.

Speaking of keyboards, those who plan to use their laptop or notebook computer at home frequently may want to consider purchasing a wireless mouse and keyboard combo. The most frequently used units are designed to plug into a USB port on the laptop, providing users with a convenient way to wirelessly use an external keyboard and mouse. Considering the fact that small keyboards and hard to use touch pads are frequent complaints by laptop users, such a purchase makes a lot of sense. The keyboards on many large 17″ laptops are quite comfortable, but the keyboards on 14″ and especially 12″ laptops can be small and difficult to use for many users. Adding an external keyboard and mouse can solve these common problems and make the laptop or notebook much easier to use.

  • Notebook Laptops Provide the Ultimate Portability and Functionality

    Matthew Richard Kerridge asked:

Computers have always played a great role in improving our working style. For many decades, computers have been enhanced to provide greater performance. They are now much faster and still improving. With the work environment evolving towards greater flexibility and mobility, notebook and laptop computers have gained popularity due to their overall portability.

Laptops and notebooks were originally introduced as separate types of portable computers. Notebooks were built smaller and thinner for extra portability. They were made to be light weight because they were not full of the extras that laptops had. A computer like this was not made for complex graphics or gaming. The notebook had a built-in modem and a very small keyboard.

Notebooks were built smaller and thinner for extra portability. They were made to be light weight because they were not full of the extras that laptops had. Notebooks generally did not have graphics cards, CD Burners or a DVD/CD drive. A computer like this was not made for graphics or heavy gaming. The notebook had a very small keyboard and the modem was built in.

Notebooks were first configured to be thinner and smaller; enabling maximum portability. They were set up to be minimal function machines that would operate over the growing wireless telephone network. However, as the years passed and the people became more comfortable with the mobility required in today’s workplace, notebook devices added more and more capability. This got us to the point where notebooks and laptops became indistinguishable. The terms came to be used interchangeably and notebook laptops were created.

Notebook laptops are composed of all the basic component of a desktop computer including a keyboard, a display, a pointing device and a battery. All these components are integrated into a single portable unit. Initially when these mobile computers were launched they were pretty heavy but now manufacturers are concentrating on reducing the weight along with improving their technical features. All of the modern notebook laptops are designed in the flip form so as to protect the screen and the keyboard when closed.

When notebook laptops were launched, they were comparatively heavy. Now all computer manufacturers concentrate on reducing the machine’s weight while improving its functional and technical features. Modern notebook laptops are designed to protect their keyboard and screen when closed with the flip flop design.

There are several categories of notebook laptops. Netbooks, sub-notebooks, and rugged laptops are all produced to serve specific mobility purposes. Netbooks are economical and light weight notebook laptops that are especially suited for Internet access and wireless communication. The sub-notebook is also known as an optimal portable notebook because of its low weight, small size and long term battery. Its design emphasizes portability. Rugged laptops have been designed to operate reliably in difficult conditions such as extreme temperature, strong vibrations and dusty or wet environments.

Desktop computers have passed the torch to sophisticated group of high powered notebook laptops that feature high degrees of accessibility and high processing speeds providing high quality net performance. The baton has been passed to the next generation of personal computers. They do a fantastic job supporting today’s mobile society. Take into account your personal desires, your wants and your needs when migrating to the notebook laptop generation. You are sure to benefit from the end destination as well as the journey itself.

  • Advantages Of Using A Notebook

Posted on December 18th, 2010 No comments
    Roberto Sedycias asked:

Notebook or laptop computer is a portable computer that can be easily carried around, and is capable of performing all possible functions of a computer. Notebook, that usually weighs around 2.2 to about 18 pounds, comes in various sizes and varied possible features.

Unlike most other electronic goods, learning how to use a notebook is no big deal. People, who are used to working on computers, find notebooks almost as convenient to use as they have been using it already. However, the touchpad or the trackpads (that are used in place of the mouse), or the pointing sticks might pose slight difficulty for the beginners, though they can conveniently attach a mouse externally. Nevertheless, the fact that notebooks bear such great resemblance to computers surely serves as a great advantage to the users.

These days notebook can also read as well as write CDs and DVDs. They are also capable of copying and transferring data using Bluetooth devices. Most of the times, these are built in the notebooks, though one may need to attach them externally if the features have not been already provided beforehand. Pen drives, etc, can also be used on notebooks for exchanging data. They also allow the benefits of using internet connection after proper configuration has been done. Microphones and web cameras can also be used with the notebooks these days.

These days there are various kinds of notebooks that are available in the market. These can be broadly classified as Ultra-Mobile PCs (or the UMPCs), the desktop replacement computers and the ultraportables. While the Ultra-Mobile PCs are laptops that can be easily carried around owing to their extra small size, the powerful desktop replacement computers are mostly to be used in a fixed place. They are more bulky and weigh more as compared to the expensive ultraportables that are specifically meant for those business travelers who need small as well as light weight notebooks that can be easily carried around, while traveling around.

Notebooks are especially useful to those who have to work on computers for long hours, or are heavily depended on computers for their work. Though they may not be as powerful as computers tend to be for the same price range, they are capable of performing all the functions that any computer would perform. There are a number of varieties one can choose from and the special features, included in each notebook, vary from one model to another. Much it depends on the price range and the manufacturer.

The main source of power for a notebook is its main battery, and the external adapter, that is used for charging the battery, from time to time. This allows the user to work on his or her laptop for hours together, without having to connect it with any wires, till the battery exhausts. The time taken for charging the battery varies from one to another, though usually it does not take more than a few hours to charge them.

With each passing day, and new developments in technology, notebooks are becoming more and more popular among the people all over the world. Though these were initially meant for the business class, who had grown dependent on their computers, these days notebooks are being used by almost anybody and everybody.

The falling prices, reducing sizes and growing features are surely making notebooks one of the most sought after electronic devices of the new millennium. Hence in today’s world having a notebook has become a necessity, no one can stay without one. After all who can deny the luxury/necessity of owing a notebook in today`s world?!

  • Free Laptop Notebook

    Nitin Saini asked:

Are you interested in a free laptop notebook? Chances are extremely remote that you shall reply back positively to this question. The modern world demands that we complete all our tasks as quickly as possible, else we shall remain behind the others and the only way that we can manage this feat is by resorting to computing power. Time is at a premium and we should not waste even a single second. While we are at home, we can manage all our tasks with the desktop computer, but what about the time spent idly while we are traveling long distances? There are many people who spend, on an average, 2 hours or more per day, traveling to and from their place of work.

They could have easily completed many tasks in this time if they had a computer along with them. This is where the free laptop notebook makes its presence felt. However, you have to exercise extreme caution while searching the net for such computers. There are many websites that are waiting to trap you and make a fool out of you. They promise many things on their website including a huge list of testimonials to convince you. Do these testimonials have any phone numbers of the persons who have supposedly written them?

You can bet your last copper that they do not. This itself should make you put up your guards. However, not all websites are the same. There are a number of genuine websites who actually offer free laptop notebook to a certain number of lucky persons. Just the simple task of purchasing a $5 mouse might win you a free laptop notebook, if you are the 10,000th customer or so. You should read the details on the website plus also check out how many people are left before that magical number is reached.
